Sneak Peek: Sarah & Garnet

I don’t think I’ve done a sneak peek for a long time so when Sarah asked for one I couldn’t say no. Not only because it was a good kick in the pants to post some thing new but because I just adore Sarah & Garnet and how could I possibly say no to those two?;)

Sarah and Garnet I hope you are enjoying your European Honeymoon. Eat some bread and cheese for me!

More to come soon!

Hello! My Name is Kaian

Kaian’s birth is the first birth I have ever photographed and it is one that I will never forget. First, I have to send a big thank you to my friend Daniela for referring Miriam to me. Daniela told a few of her maternity clients that I was heading into birth photography and offering a free session. Miriam being a scrapbooker understood the meaning of having photos to document special moments and was all for it. She and I were introduced to each other via e-mail and that was the beginning of her birth story with me. You might remember Miriam from a maternity session I did with Daniela a couple months back. You can check them out here. It was so hard for me not to write about photographing her birth. I just wanted to tell everyone! When I met with Miriam and Rob in person the day of the maternity session I day I had such a good vibe from them. They are such kind hearted people and so down to earth. I just knew that we were going to have a good time together. It was a week before Miriam’s due date that I got a text from Rob late one night, that her water broke. I calmly texted back that when they were all settled in to let me know what Miriam was dialated. I was going to gauge how quickly I should be getting ready to how many cm she was dialted. Seconds later Rob texted me back that she was 5. 5! What?!?! Totally not was I was expecting. I jumped up grabbed all my gear together, well actually Carson grabbed all my gear together while I brushed my teeth and got ready to go. Didn’t want to go into the labour and delivery with funky breath.;)

Well to make a long story short Miriam was the perfect first client. Her labour was so fast. I was so impressed at how she handled each contraction. On of my favorite moments was when she was telling me a story about what she was doing earlier on in the day suddenly a contraction came on, she worked through it and then once it was over she picked up in the story where she left of. There is no way you would have caught me doing that. I didn’t want to talk at all during my labor and if you tried I’m sure you got THE LOOK. Miriam was a pillar of strength. And I can’t forget Rob. He was such an attentive husband. Payed close attention to Miriam at every second. It was so sweet. The moment I cried was when Rob saw Kaian for the first time and tears welled up in his eyes. He had that look. Moms, you know what I’m talking about. The look your husbands get when they see your baby for the time. *SIGH*

Ok, enough of my rambling. I could go on about that evening. Don’t forget I’m offering 3 free birth photography session so please contact me if this is something you would like to do before the spots fill up.

Here are just a few photos of sweet baby Kain’s birth. Don’t forget to check out the newborn session that Daniela did. Check it out here.

Stay tuned for the slideshow!

Kelowna Engagement – Darren+Jocelyn

Meet Jocelyn and Darren. When I left the session I found myself smiling on the drive home. Jocelyn and Darren and such kind people. They are so easy to talk to, playful and natural in front of the camera-despite what they think.;)I have to say Darren’s proposal story is one of the best I have heard in a long time. I literally had to put down my camera and swoon as Jocelyn was telling me the story. You can definitely feel (and see) the love these two have for one another and their families. I can not wait to photograph their wedding in Kelowna next month. It sounds like a lot of fun and who wouldn’t want to photograph a gorgeous bride like Jocelyn!;)

Here are just a few of my favourites.

Enjoy!

Cyr Family

Last month I had the honor to photograph my old college friends, Heather and Hugh and their beautiful kids. I have to be honest, I was extremely nervous before the shoot. I don’t think I got much sleep the night before. Many photographers are nervous to shoot other photographers but I get nervous when I have to photograph friends. Especially friends like Heather who is so encouraging of my photography. Every encouraging word she says touches my heart. She sees the emotions that I truly want to convey in my photos. She gets it especially at times when I fear that no else does. Heather is the real deal with it comes to being real and I know what comes from her heart is not said in vain. She means what she says. So when she asked me to photograph her family I was truly honored. It had been a year or so since I last saw her family. Her kids are just so adorable and are some of the most well behaved kids I have ever worked with (mine included;)). Thanks Heather and Hugh for letting me take you family photographs, I hope the photos give you a happy heart. ;P

Enjoy a few of my faves.

Hello! My name is Piper

Piper. I just love her name. Pipers parents are both in the same industry. Melanie is a talented make-up artists and Tim is an awesome wedding videographer. Seriously, if you want somebody to document your wedding day-he’s the one! You can check Tim and Melanie’s work here and here.

When Melanie contacted me to photograph her birth I have to say I was extremely nervous because we pretty much run in the same circle. It’s always nerve-wracking photographing another photographer or someone who in the same line of work but once I got to the hospital all nervousness that had been built up were gone and I couldn’t wait to document their little ones arrival. Melanie’s labor was the quietest labor I’ve attended. The whole vibe in the room was so calm. You could really feel Melanie’s inner strength shining through as she stayed focus on pushing her little baby out. Tim was also great. He was always at Melanie’s side keeping his focus all on his wife. It was so sweet to watch. Melanie’s mom and sister were also in the room too and as I watched Melanie’s mom be a support for her daughter I quietly hoped I could have that same experience with my girls when it’s their turn. There was such a great family bond in that room. It was so great to a part of. For Melanie’s first baby, Piper sure came quickly. I had expected to be there for the long haul but as I got back in my van I realized i was only there for a few hours. I tell you Melanie is one tough lady.

Thank you and Melanie and Tim for allowing me to photograph Piper’s arrival.
